Soft and sticky semi-glutinous rice
Deep flavor from a clean climate and clean water

This is one of the newest varieties, developed and released in 2022 by the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services to suit changing tastes.

Yeorihyang, with its toasty nurungji aroma, is a low-amylose rice at 9.5% — close to Goyang’s well-loved specialty varieties ‘Gawaji No. 1’ (8.2%) and ‘Baekjinju’ (9.1%) — and is known for being soft yet sticky.

Rice with less than 15% amylose is called low-amylose (semi-glutinous) rice. Even milled as brown rice, its texture stays soft and easy to eat, and the rice stays soft after it cools.

Yeorihyang is also a mid-to-late-ripening variety: its grains fill out through Yeoncheon-gun’s big day–night temperature swings, which gives it a deep flavor and an especially fine taste.

Depending on how dry it is, low-amylose rice can look white, like glutinous rice. It isn’t mixed with glutinous rice!

Variety

Seolhyangchal

To the clean ‘Namtobuksu’ of Yeoncheon —
we add a nurungji aroma!

A premium rice raised by fertile soil from the south and clean water from the Imjin River to the north.

Even without soaking, it cooks up soft with a toasty nurungji aroma. With less amylose than regular rice, it makes sticky rice with a chewy texture and a wonderful taste.

Yeoncheon Rice Seolhyangchal (nurungji-aroma glutinous white rice · 2026 new crop)

Seolhyangchal glutinous rice bag (Hi Yeoncheon Rice · Namtobuksu) in front of a golden field

Cook it mixed with white rice and you get a toasty flavor, almost like nurungji simmered in water. It adds a chewier stickiness than ordinary glutinous rice and lifts the flavor of the rice.

Use it for yaksik (sweet rice), rice cakes or porridge and the nurungji aroma gives them a special taste. If your rice ever tastes a little flat, mix in a small amount of this glutinous rice — the flavor really comes alive. It stays glossy and sticky after cooling, so it’s great for cold rice, lunch boxes and rice balls too.

A toasty nurungji aroma drifts up the moment it starts cooking, and it brings out the flavor of your rice with no special effort. It keeps the stickiness of glutinous brown rice, and it’s less dry and coarse than typical brown rice — good for anyone new to brown rice.

No soaking needed — just mix it with white rice and cook for soft, sticky rice. You get the good nutrition of brown rice, while the stickiness of glutinous rice makes it easier on your stomach.

Fresh Milling

Freshly milled rice

Single-variety rice, fresh from the mill

To send you the best rice we can, we mill it ourselves — on a small scale, but with clean, up-to-date equipment.

We mill each variety on a separate schedule so they never get mixed, so delivery may take 1–2 days longer depending on our milling schedule. Thank you for your patience — we’ll repay it with even better-tasting rice.

How to Enjoy

Enjoying it at its best

Buy a little, often — keep it as fresh as possible

Rice begins to age the moment it is milled, and it loses flavor as time goes by.

We recommend eating it within one month of the milling date.
Keeping it longer than a month? Store it in an airtight container in the fridge!

Suchanmi · Yeorihyang

Aromatic rice contains fats, so it ages faster.
Be sure to keep it refrigerated.
